Northway's Founder and Chairman of the Board
C. Kenneth Battram, 80, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2010, at his home.
He was born July 19, 1929, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late C. Kenneth and Evelyn G. (Sinclair) Battram. On Aug. 11, 1962, he married the former Dora M. Fisher, who survives.
Kenneth was an Army veteran of the Korean War and served in Kingsland in the North Sea manning radar stations.
In 1958, he secured a Wood-Mode dealership in Williamsport, operating it until 1960. He then began employment as a manufacturer representative for Wood-Mode. In 1973, Kenneth was appointed administrative vice president of Wood-Mode, and then in 1975, he became executive vice president, a position he held until his retirement in 1992. Kenneth formed Northway Industries, Middleburg, in 1966 and remained active in Northway until his passing.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Selinsgrove, and the Susquehanna Valley Country Club and served as a consultant to the board of the East Snyder Recreation Park, Selinsgrove, where he also donated funds to establish the Battram Pavilion.
Kenneth enjoyed golfing and tennis and in 1974, with several friends, formed the Brookside Racquet Club, Shamokin Dam. He greatly enjoyed fishing and boating as well as pitching horseshoes, particularly at the Northway Horseshoe Court at the East Snyder Recreation Park.
In 2003 Kenneth established the Northway Trust that provides continuity of ownership and guidance of Northway Industries, Inc. The primary mission of the trust is to ensure that Northway Industries, Inc. will be a provider of employment and an asset to the area and surrounding region.
